“I have enough money to last me the rest of my life, unless I buy something.” Jackie Mason - “Like so many Americans, she was trying to construct a life that made sense from things she found in gift shops.” Kurt Vonnegut - “I wish to complain about this parrot what I purchased not half an hour ago from this very boutique.” Monty Python – “Don't open a shop unless you like to smile.” Confusius

‘I have not seen a more exceptional book of photographs this year.’
Photo-columnist Hans Aarsman

‘Saudade’ consists of five works of art, a number of temporary activities based around these works, and a photography competition for residents of this new neighbourhood. The artworks function as visual recollections of the adventurous early years of the neighbourhood. They show that an unfinished neighbourhood offers more to the imagination than a place where every playground has been delineated in a ready-to-use neighbourhood.
‘Longing back to that which you have never known’ is, freely translated, the meaning of the Portuguese term ‘saudade’. Builders’ sand transformed into a dunescape; a ‘bathhouse’ whereby construction was suspended before completion, turned out to be perfectly useful in its unfinished form, as an open-air cinema. Through use of a subtle campaign, the viewpoint of the inhabitants mixed with those of the artists. Photos by residents and photos of the executed artworks were compiled into a ‘birth book’ of the neighbourhood.

In order to purchase something, please send us an email with your requests or inquiries.

We use PayPal for payment, but if you live in the Netherlands or within the EU we prefer payment by bank transfer – contact us for details. All orders must be paid in advance. All prices on the website are in euros. Prices quoted include sales tax (VAT/BTW) but do not include postage) – these will be added to the price. An itemized invoice with specified tax and shipping costs will be sent with all purchases. For shipment of multiple orders, please delay payment until we have informed you of the correct amount for shipping costs.

Unfortunately international shipping from the Netherlands is quite expensive. We really try to keep postage costs as low as possible by using a standard shipping method, without tracking numbers etc. This means that goods are uninsured. If you prefer your parcel to be shipped with insurance, please contact us before purchasing.

We cannot be held responsible for any uninsured purchases getting lost in the mail (a rare occurrence) or packages being damaged by the postal services. But if such should occur, please feel free to contact us and we’ll see if we can arrange something.
We are located in the Netherlands. Post takes about 7 days within the EU, worldwide 7-14 days, but - because we do a lot of site specific art projects and are often on the road - the shop is not always manned. Nevertheless, we will do our best to process your order as fast as possible.
